| If you're in Boston |
[Nov. 7th, 2005|12:09 pm] |
Tonight In the Face releases their album "All Business" at the Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge/Boston. This is a milestone, as this is the first record that I tracked and mixed compeltely on my own.
If you're in Boston, they play around 11:15 pm and you'll find me somewhere in the room singing along to all the songs and acting like a proud father. In my years playing music in Massachusetts I never did play at the Middle East despite early plans to do so while I was in Harris, so this is the closest I'll probably come. That's just fine with me.
The boys are a good band and put on a fun show, come meet me in Boston! |

I don't understand chicks, lesson one:
Amber saw a purse on Martha Stewart Apprentice and nearly started crying because she wanted it. |

| hmmm.... |
[Oct. 5th, 2005|10:38 am] |
who has had the best week ever? Me!
Spending lots of hanging out time with Amber, a new acoustic guitar, making progress on the In the Face, Failed Silence + Los Bungalitos mixes, my birthday on the 3rd, seeing my extended family, seeing the guys, watching the WWE homecoming with the guys, getting a month of laundry done in a day, playing a show with Eugene, playing open mic night, light bar hopping and heavy drinking Saturday night, more heavy drinking Thursday night, and something else too!
L'Chaim!
L'Shana Tova!
Let's hope 5766 is as good as the end of 5765! |

| | Don't Leave Me | ] | So I've got a subsription to SPIN magazine. I think I paid all of $7.00 for two years, thanks to the internet. They have a 20 greatest innovators of the ast 20 years list this month. Not in music, but across the board. There's all kinds of things wrong witht he list, but let's assume that they're talking solely about pop culture. The following people are not on the list: Russell Simmons or Rick Rubin. Now I'm no "expert" lke those SPIN magazine types, but I just see an issue there. Maybe I could even go as far as removing Rick Rubin. Maybe the guy who molded the Chilli Pepper (Anthony Keidis is on the list) into a juggernaut of a pop funk rock band doesn't deserve to be on a list of innovators. But to not include Russell Simmons just seems wrong to me. I know he's an obvious pick as the guy who pretty much brought hip hop and rap into the mainstream. Chuck D is on the list. I'm all about Chuck D being on the list, however, being "lower" on the list than someone like CONNER OBERST might be a little WRONG. Or Ian MacKaye under Bright Eyes.
Ugh, SPIN disgusts me, but it's like that girlfriend who you hated that you just kept having sex with week after week, regardless of how you felt about her personally. It's jsut what you knew.
p.s. disclaimer: above reference is only a metaphor, it doesn't apply to anyone i've ever dated. |

| here's what I want |
[Sep. 28th, 2005|04:25 pm] |
I want an RSS reader application that integrates directly into Tiger in the menu bar on the right side.
I want an icon I can click on that will list the feeds I subscribe to, and hovering over the feeds will produce the last (user definable) number of headlines, read or not. the unread ones are highlighted. Preferences will be on a per feed basis, for instance if I choose to subscribe to the fark.com rss feed but I only want it to show stories that are less than 12 hours old as unread, I want it to do that. Global preferences as well, of course. Perhaps favicon support too. Also of important will be the ability to download enclosures. The menu hierarchy should look like this:
>RSS >>digg.com >>>headline 1 >>>headline 2 >>>headline 3 >>>enclosure.mp3 >>>>open with application x >>>>download to disk
anyone want to program this application for me? |

| backing up my DVD collection |
[Sep. 14th, 2005|03:15 pm] |
The best way for you to "back up" the DVD collection you "own" (on a Mac that is)
1. Rip the CD to your hard drive with Mac the Ripper, this creates a VIDEO_TS file and makes your computer able to write the information to the drive despite copy protection or disc region
2. Pull the actual movie file (or any other videos) you want from the VIDEO_TS folder with Handbrake a utility that allows you to re-encode the .VOB files as .mp4 .avi or .ogm and encode with ether mp4 or h.264 video encoding. This enables quicktime playback or iTunes playback. I suggest iTunes because you can get fullscreen without paying for it like with quicktime.
3. Download Roxio's Toast 7.0.1 software and burn to either DVD-DLs (who has those anyway) or compress the video to make it fir on a regular DVD.
There you have a very easy way to back up your DVDs on a Mac |
